We’re always surprised when we hear about web designers, developers and marketers who simply do what their customers ask. After all, who attends industry conferences, joins memberships and gets formal training in online marketing? It’s usually not the client. Yet we often hear about professionals who happily take a client’s money, without offering any professional advice.

We never let our clients place an order that isn’t in their best interest.

In fact, we often have potential clients who want to hire us just to run some split-tests or set up a “quick” Adwords campaign. But these single activities aren’t useful by themselves. Therefore, before we take the job, we look at their individual situation to see what their weakest marketing link is, in terms of their Traffic, Conversion Rate, and Conversion Value. Then we determine what effort will have the biggest impact on their bottom line.

Richard loves sifting through analytics to find exploitable patterns. After leaving a career in quantitative finance in 2004, he got interested in Google and wondered how it made so much money.

He questioned, “If it’s just a computer, shouldn’t someone be able to find patterns in their algorithm and reverse-engineer Google just like quants can reverse-engineer the financial markets?”

Thus, the search began. He started off like many others believing that SEO and organic rankings were the road to wealth and happiness before he realized that SEO is really just the cherry on top. He formulated the concept that a website’s revenues depend on its traffic, conversion rate, and value of each conversion.  SEO is one component of traffic, but he realized how wasteful it is to spend time ranking for keywords organically that haven’t been tested with PPC.  So he got really good at PPC, landing pages, and analytics. He analyzes keywords similarly to how financial analysts view assets in a portfolio because he’s also an all-around math geek.

Richard has a Masters Degree in Economics with a concentration in Financial Engineering from Florida State University. He is also a certified Google Analytics Qualified Individual, as well as a three-time Market Motive Trained Practitioner, with certifications in PPC, Web Analytics, and Conversion Optimization.

Theresa Baiocco, Hootsuite Certified Professional and Market Motive Trained Practioner Theresa Baiocco –  Conversion Rate Specialist

Theresa helps clients improve their websites’ conversions with a systematic process of identifying and prioritizing the areas that prevent conversions, then fixing them.  She does this by digging through the site’s analytics to determine WHAT is wrong, then running various usability tests to figure out WHY.  She then fixes those issues from a user-experience standpoint, to ensure that our clients’ websites are user-friendly, intuitive, and will convert.  Part of that process includes running split-tests to constantly find the most winning variations.  All design and layout changes are calculated, strategic decisions based on a combination of different types of usability tests, analytics data, and split-testing results.

Theresa holds a degree in English from Regis University in Denver and has also studied Web Graphic Design at DeVry University.  She is on track to complete her Master’s Degree in Marketing at the University of Colorado in Denver in 2012. She is a HootSuite Certified Professional and a three-time Market Motive Trained Practitioner with certifications in Online Marketing Fundamentals, Conversion Optimization, and SEO.
